Hey small business owner, are you up to speed on what you can and can’t do when it comes to image licensing? A lot of people aren’t. One day you’re throwing up a meme on social media that contributes to the latest viral trend, and the next thing you know, you’re in hot water for using an unlicensed image. It’s more common than you think, and it’s easy to mess up if you don’t know what you’re doing.

If you want to keep things on the up-and-up and avoid any legal drama, let’s explore the basics of image licensing.

The Risks of Using Unlicensed Images

Here’s the deal—every image on the internet doesn’t automatically belong to the public. Just because you can right-click and save doesn’t mean you can actually use that image. When you use an image without the proper license or permission, you’re essentially using an unlicensed image. That’s where the trouble starts.

Now, I get it. Maybe you think, “Who’s going to notice? I’m just a small business. No one’s going to come after me.” That’s where you’d be wrong. Content creators, stock image companies, and copyright holders have systems in place that can detect unauthorized use. They’re not always looking for the “big fish” either—small businesses are fair game, too.

Using an unlicensed image could lead to a copyright infringement claim, and trust me, no one wants that. It’s not just about being sued (though that could happen)—it’s also about protecting your money, since you might be asked to pay a fine in addition to image’s licensing cost. It can be a nightmare, but it’s completely avoidable.

The best thing you can do is make sure any image you use is licensed correctly. I don’t personally think it’s worth the gamble.

Fair Use vs. Commercial Use: What You Need to Know

You might have heard the term “fair use” thrown around and assumed it protects you. But here’s the deal: fair use doesn’t apply to small businesses in most cases.

Fair use is a legal doctrine that allows limited use of copyrighted material without permission, mainly for things like commentary, criticism, or educational purposes. But if you’re using an image to promote your business or your products (i.e., for commercial gain), fair use is out the window. You need a license for that image, no exceptions.

When you’re using images for anything remotely tied to making money—whether it’s your website, social media, or ads—you need to either buy the image, use a free image from a reputable site that grants commercial use rights, or make sure you’re following the correct guidelines.

The Meme Trap

Memes are everywhere, and it’s super tempting to hop on a viral trend for your business. Who doesn’t want more engagement, likes, and shares? Memes can be gold for that, and we’re all chasing those sweet, sweet views Mosseri told us we need now. But here’s the kicker—if you’re using an unlicensed image in a meme, you could be setting yourself up for a legal trouble. It might seem harmless, but remember, you’re using that image to promote your business.

Let’s say the meme you want to use features a stock photo or someone’s copyrighted material. Unless you’ve licensed (paid for) that image, you’re risking a copyright infringement notice. Sure, you could roll the dice and hope no one notices, but is that a risk you really want to take?

The Moo Deng Dilemma

Speaking of trends, let’s talk about Moo Deng—the adorable pygmy hippo that stole our hearts. I was all set to create a meme about her for a post, but then I remembered: I’d need to license her photo. I can’t just grab any old picture of her and call it a day.

As a small business, you have to play by the same rules as the big guys. The moment you use an image for commercial purposes, the fair use rule flies out the window.

When I went to see how much money I’d have to fork over for a Moo Deng image as someone with fewer than 1M followers, I was shocked to learn how much it cost.

Don’t Forget Your Website

Unfortunately, your website is in the same boat. Every image you use on your site must be properly licensed. This brings me to a common misconception with stock image licensing sites like Death to Stock. While they offer stunning photos, there’s a catch: if you cancel your subscription, you lose the right to use the images. That’s right. Once your membership ends, those beautiful photos could get you in trouble if you don’t swap them out. And I hate that.

Top 3 Affordable Image Licensing Sites

Now that I’ve scared you a little, 👻 let’s talk about where to find image licensing options that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. There are tons of options out there, but here are my top three picks for affordable stock imagery:

 • Pexels: Pexels is a great option for small businesses on a budget. It’s free, offers high-quality images, and everything is submitted by photographers around the world. This is my go-to stock imagery site.
 • Unsplash: Another (mostly) free favorite. Unsplash is pretty similar to Pexels, offering a massive library of crowd-sourced photos.
 • Canva Pro: If you’re already using Canva for your design work (and who isn’t these days?), their Pro plan includes access to a huge library of stock images. It’s a paid option, but you get design tools and imagery in one neat package.
Why Getty Images Isn’t Always Ideal

What about the big names, like Getty Images? We’ve all heard of them, but—Getty’s pricing on image licensing can be a little intense for small businesses. When I looked into licensing a photo of Moo Deng through Getty, the cost was way out of reach for someone with fewer than a million followers. It’s an option if you’re a larger business with a big budget, but for most small businesses, affordable alternatives like Pexels and Unsplash are the way to go.

A Note on Crediting Photographers

If you’re seeking (free) image licensing from sites like Pexels or Unsplash, it’s always a nice gesture to credit the photographer. Sure, it’s not required, but it’s a good practice that supports the photography community. Consider adding a small credit at the bottom of your post or in the caption. It’s an easy way to show appreciation, and who knows—it might even increase your credibility with your audience.

In Conclusion

It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to potential legal issues, and thankfully, there are plenty of affordable ways to access high-quality, licensed images without risking a lawsuit.

Until next time! Me and Moo Deng love you <3

The post 5 Ways to Elevate Your Boutique Hotel Marketing Strategy to Reflect Timeless Luxury appeared first on Considerate Support Strategy Studio.

When guests choose to stay at a boutique hotel, they’re expecting more than just having a place to stay. They want an experience that resonates with the elegance and beauty of the property itself. For properties with a classic, timeless aesthetic, the boutique hotel marketing plan you choose should reflect that sense of luxury and attention to detail. Here are five ways your boutique hotel can elevate its marketing to truly embody the bespoke experience that sets you apart.

1. Define Your Brand’s Core Identity

The foundation of any successful boutique hotel marketing strategy is a well-defined brand identity. Boutique hotels often have rich stories and distinctive philosophies that differentiate them from larger chains. Your marketing should convey these elements in a way that connects with your target audience.

Start by identifying the core values that define your hotel. Are you focused on old-world charm, modern luxury, or a blend of the two? Is there a specific narrative behind your hotel’s design or its location that should be shared? At Considerate Support, we begin with a brand audit to explore these questions, making sure every piece of marketing reflects the heart of your hotel’s story. When potential guests understand the unique personality of your brand, they’re more likely to form an emotional connection—and choose your hotel over others.

2. Create a Cohesive Visual Identity

The visual presentation of your brand is just as important as the guest experience itself. The aesthetic of your boutique hotel marketing materials—your website, social media presence, and even printed collateral—should mirror the timeless atmosphere of your hotel.

A cohesive visual identity brings this atmosphere to life before guests even arrive. The typography, color palette, and imagery you choose should evoke a sense of refinement and elegance. Whether you want to highlight classic design elements or modern additions, every visual should be consistent across all platforms. Prioritize creating a seamless transition from marketing to guest experience, and if you’re unable to accomplish that with your in-house team, hire out.

3. Use Messaging That Resonates With Your Audience

The way you communicate with your audience is just as important as how you look. Messaging plays a vital role in reflecting the sophistication and values of your hotel. It’s essential to go beyond listing amenities and instead focus on how your hotel creates a memorable experience.

The tone of voice should reflect the elegance of your brand, capturing the attention of potential guests who are drawn to timeless, understated luxury. Whether it’s your website copy, social media posts, or email campaigns, the messaging should feel like an extension of the high-end experience your hotel offers.

4. Curate an Intentional Social Media Strategy

Social media is a powerful tool that aids boutique hotel marketing, but luxury brands must be strategic about how they present themselves. For high-end properties, social media should feel curated and intentional. Every post needs to align with the luxury aesthetic and values of your hotel.

This is where boutique hotel marketing can really shine by showcasing behind-the-scenes moments, artfully composed images of the property, and personalized guest experiences. It’s important to highlight the beauty of your hotel without it feeling overly promotional to your audience. Focus on creating content that feels authentic, personal, and aligned with your brand’s elegance. By doing so, your social media platforms become an extension of your hotel, enticing potential guests to book based on the beauty and attention to detail they see online.

5. Strategically Position Your Hotel in a Competitive Market

Luxury boutique hotels operate in a competitive space, so it’s important to clearly define what makes your property unique. Strategic positioning helps set your hotel apart by showcasing its features and highlighting what makes it special. This means identifying and communicating your hotel’s unique value proposition—whether it’s your carefully curated design, impeccable service, or rich history.

Why Investing in Strategy Matters

When considering what to do for boutique hotel marketing, a comprehensive and thoughtful strategy is imperative in maintaining relevance and attracting guests that will fall in love with your property. Your hotel is a destination, and every touchpoint in your marketing should reinforce that message. A well-crafted strategy ensures that your hotel’s luxury, values, and timeless aesthetic are consistently communicated across all platforms, allowing you to build lasting relationships with your guests.

Investing in a holistic marketing strategy that reflects your hotel’s essence elevates your brand and sets you apart in a crowded sector of hospitality. At Considerate Support, we specialize in helping boutique hotels bring their story to life, designing brand, marketing, and operational strategies that reflect the elegance and timelessness your brand embodies. Let us help you create a boutique hotel marketing plan that not only attracts your ideal guests but makes them fall in love before they even step through the door. Get in touch.

Introduction

Curious about the best day to publish your blog posts? Looking for simple, effective ways to enhance your SEO? In this article on SEO essentials and posting schedules, you’ll learn tips for effective blogging and will gain insights into what an effective blogging strategy looks like for your business. This guide focuses on easy-to-implement guidance for scheduling posts and basic SEO techniques, aimed at making your blog more visible and engaging, all while keeping the entire process of blog content creation and posting straightforward and manageable.

When Is the Best Time to Post a Blog Post?

Pinpointing the best time to post a blog post hinges on understanding your audience’s most active periods. Utilizing tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console can help you gain insight into their online behavior and preferences.

Most industry advice recommends posting on Monday morning EST for peak engagement and page views. Kicking off the week with fresh content simplifies your content planning and coincides with the beginning of your readers’ most engaged days, as they are typically more active and interactive online during the early part of the week. This timing can maximize views and interactions, making it a solid choice for content scheduling.

If you’re into astrology like me, you can consider astrological influences of each day of the week when deciding when to post to your blog. Regardless of your belief in astrology, referencing astrological rulership can help organize routinize your writing and publishing schedule. For instance, Wednesday is ruled by the planet Mercury, which is associated with writing, communicating, and thinking. Maybe Wednesday is the day you write your blog post for the following week. Thursday is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion and prosperity, so if you want increased viewership, that could be a great day to post. Monday is ruled by the moon, so it’s a good day to share your reflections, and what else is a blog post really, than the result of what you’ve reflected on?

In the end, selecting a posting time should be a decision that fits well with your own schedule, and it should feel right to you. If posting on a specific day and time feels right to me, I go with that feeling. Relying on intuition has always been my preferred approach. While maintaining a regular posting schedule can be beneficial, it’s also okay to be flexible and adjust as your circumstances change. Consistency can be helpful, but it’s perfectly fine to adapt and find what works best for you.

How Often Should I Post on My Blog?

For most entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, updating your blog weekly is probably optimal. This regularity suits the typical entrepreneur’s schedule and offers a regular point of connection between you and your audience. Search engines like Google favor consistent updates, and a weekly post schedule aligns well with this. Additionally, each weekly post offers fresh material for content repurposing across your other platforms, ensuring a steady flow of fresh, atomized content every week.

Should I Update or Repost Old Blog Content?

Consider your blog as an ever-evolving entity, where nurturing both new and existing posts contributes to its growth and overall health. Updating old blog content is a strategic move, particularly for evergreen topics or posts that have performed well in the past. Organizing these posts into a themed series and creating a master post with links and brief summaries establishes a robust internal linking network. This not only enhances user engagement and SEO but also streamlines your workload.

Simultaneously, if you’re considering reposting old content, ensure that you implement significant updates and revisions to offer fresh value and avoid duplicate content issues, an SEO no-no. Rather than removing the original post, keep it up, making sure the updated version you post is distinct enough to be its own unique entity. This method revitalizes your content for your audience while maintaining your blog’s SEO integrity. By informing your readers that the post is an update, you enhance transparency and trust. Both updating and reposting, when done thoughtfully, are effective ways to keep your blog dynamic, interesting, and continuously evolving.

How Should I Do SEO on My Blog Post?

To streamline your blog’s SEO, consider using ChatGPT for keyword analysis. After completing your blog post, input the content into ChatGPT and request keyword suggestions for your type of business and industry. Ask it to provide you with relevant and impactful keywords tailored to your content.

Here’s a prompt you can use to do just that:

Here’s my latest blog post about [Your Blog Post Topic], targeted at [Your Target Audience]. The post aims to [Main Goal of the Post, e.g., inform, promote a product]. Could you suggest SEO keywords that are suitable for this industry and topic? I’m particularly interested in [specify keyword types, e.g., long-tail keywords, local SEO terms] and aiming for a keyword density of around [desired percentage, e.g., 1-2%]. Based on this content and criteria, what keywords would maximize its visibility and appeal to my audience?

Once it gives you those recommendations, tell it this:

“Can you rewrite my blog post to be optimized based on your suggestions, changing as little as possible of my original version and integrating keywords as seamlessly as possible? I really mean AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. Maintain my original version as much as possible when integrating your suggested keywords.”

Additionally, for SEO optimization, Rank Math is great. It’s designed to make SEO effortless—Rank Math guides you through optimizing your posts with AI-driven keyword analysis. I prefer it to Yoast, I find it works best for my needs as a solopreneur. I recommend you give it a try! You can use my affiliate link here if you want to check out the software.

How Long Should My Blog Post Be?

Aiming for 1,000-1,500 words per blog post is a sweet spot for several reasons. Firstly, this length is favored by search engine algorithms. Additionally, it provides a substantial amount of content that can be creatively repurposed into alternative formats like social media posts. If you’re using AI tools to assist with content atomization, like generating Instagram post ideas in the same theme as your blog, having a longer post gives the AI more material to work with, leading to more diverse outputs and human-sounding language. This word range strikes a great balance between SEO effectiveness and providing ample material for repurposing and extending your content’s impact.

How Many Outbound and Inbound Links Should I Include In a Blog Post?

What can I say, the SEO gods like linking. Incorporating hyperlinks in your blog posts is significant to a solid SEO strategy. By strategically linking to previous content you’ve published, relevant external sources, and even your contact page, you enhance not just the SEO performance of your blog but also its informational depth and potential for backlinks. It’s a well-known fact in the SEO world that effective linking can significantly impact a site’s visibility. Whether it’s connecting to other related blog posts you’ve written, external information, or networking links that might encourage reciprocal linking, remember: in the realm of SEO, linking is king! This approach not only satisfies search engine criteria but also adds value for your readers, making your content more resourceful and interconnected.

How Do I Measure the Success of My Blog Posts? And Why Should I?

Using Google Analytics and Search Console is essential for understanding audience engagement with your blog. These tools provide insights into user behavior, allowing you to tailor your content strategy to better match audience preferences. Data can inform your next topics or posting schedule, helping align your content with what your audience enjoys.

Why not give the people what they want? You don’t have to change everything about yourself or your message to please the masses, but having the information about what they like certainly doesn’t hurt. If your interests align, fantastic! Maybe that’s what you write about next. If everybody seems to be online on Tuesdays, then maybe posting on Tuesdays makes sense for you. Data never hurt nobody.

Conclusion

Blogging as a solopreneur requires continuous learning and adapting, but it’s a rewarding process. We’ve covered everything from creating ideal posting schedules to using tools like Rank Math and insights from Google Analytics to enhance your blogging success. Keep experimenting, analyzing your audience’s preferences, and refining your approach to grow your digital presence.

Happy blogging!

If you’re a solopreneur, consistent content creation may feel like an uphill battle. Your work is your passion and your gift to the world. But how do you succeed in the digital landscape without it taking over your life?

1. Content Creation in Sync with Your Life

Creating content doesn’t have to be a chore. You shouldn’t have to halt your life for several hours whenever you create a single post for social media. Instead, your content can be an organic extension of your life. A great way to avoid spending a ton of time creating content is to batch it, we recommend 3-4 months at a time.

Platforms like TikTok are great for this, since you can record short, genuine, and engaging videos almost anywhere, anytime. It’s an easy way to connect, especially for those starting their content creation journey. TikTok is a very popular way online users are connecting with content, so it’s a win-win if you choose to create on this platform.

If you’re interested in using Instagram, think of it as your digital business card. Whenever someone looks you up, your feed is a quick way for someone to get a feel for your and your brand. Instagram’s primary weakness is that it’s difficult to discover new creators to follow, so treating it like a portfolio and keeping it up to date regularly throughout the month is all you really need to do. Even posting once a week is great.

YouTube, while it offers great opportunities for creating income, requires a higher level of production and may not be the best place to begin your rhythm. Once you find the content creation cadence that works best for you, we recommend considering whether creating YouTube videos could be a good fit for your content creation journey.

2. Practice Makes Perfect

The rhythm of content creation is something that takes time to establish. At first, you might struggle to find the beat that feels good to you, but don’t let the process deter you. The more you practice, the easier it becomes. You’ll gain experience, confidence, and it’ll get easier the more you post.

Start simple. The goal isn’t to create complex videos or lengthy posts but just to start. This is your opportunity to get comfortable talking on camera, which simply takes practice. Keep showing up and you’ll keep getting better.

3. Align with Your Vision

Your content creation process should be in sync with your life rhythm and also aligned with your broader vision. If you want more clarity about your vision, consider creating a mood board. They can be powerful visual tools that can help define what you aspire to achieve or how you want to feel. Platforms like Pinterest make it easy to collect images that inspire you, whether they represent an actual goal (like building a retreat center) or convey a desired feeling (like expansiveness, joy, or abundance). Seeing your vision personified in images can fuel your motivation and naturally shape your visual and written content.

4. Embrace Life As It Is Now—Challenges Included

It’s crucial to acknowledge that it’s okay not to be okay all the time, or even most of the time. If you’re a neurodiverse entrepreneur, I’m sure you’re particularly familiar with this experience. When life feels particularly overwhelming, the best thing you can often do is take a step back.

Remember that every inhale has an exhale. The exhale is a period of rest, a pause, a chance to just be. It’s not a setback, even if it feels like it. Rather, it’s a critical part of the cycle of your life. If you’re worried about stepping back and losing momentum or income, understand that it’s a natural fear, but it will pass.

Challenging times can be fertile ground where profound creations are born. Sharing your challenges and how you’re navigating them can be a powerful testament to what it’s like to be a human being in business. It’s a stark contrast to the ‘highlight reel’ mentality that social media often perpetuates and serves as a reminder that content creation should be a natural part of your life, not something you should force.

Remember, we were never meant to produce 24/7, 365 days a year. For 95% of human history, people worked around 15 hours per week. Now ask yourself: Can I let myself off the hook a bit? What are some ways I can build a truly sustainable workload that works with my natural rhythm? (And millions of years of human evolution?)

Embracing the rhythm of content creation can be achieved by syncing your digital endeavors with your life, your passions, and your vision. It’s about practicing, keeping it simple, and aligning your work with a vision that’s meaningful to you. Above all, it’s vital to acknowledge the ebb and flow of life and allow your content to reflect a fuller spectrum of your human experience. Remember that you and your life comes before all of this—prioritize your wellbeing, and your business will be better off.

The post 7 Compelling Reasons to Prioritize Social Media Strategy in Your Marketing Plan appeared first on Considerate Support Strategy Studio.

]]>
In the mystical land of digital marketing, navigating social media without a strategy is akin to setting out on a road trip without your GPS. The social media landscape is vast, and knowing where you’re headed is critical if you want to spend less time glued to your computer screen. Solid social media strategy helps you avoid investing significant effort into creating your content only for it to underperform.

In this post, we delve into seven compelling reasons why a robust social media strategy is integral for your digital marketing success, allowing you to get offline and get into your actual life way more often.

1. Intentionality: Deliberate Steps Toward Growth

Well-crafted marketing strategy gives purpose and direction to everything you do online. From deciding which platforms to leverage, to determining the content your audience enjoys the most, a comprehensive social media strategy ensures that every action you take on social media is a deliberate movement toward business growth. One way to practice this is to regularly refer to a visual moodboard and list of your business’ foundational values whenever you create content. I’m a post-it person, so Considerate Support’s values are stuck to my computer monitor, and the CS moodboard is my desktop background.

2. Consistency: Aligning Your Content with Your Brand Identity

Brand identity is what sets your business apart in the eyes of your audience. It’s the face and voice of your business, and is visually represented by elements like your logo, color palette, and typography. Ultimately, brand identity is the overarching personality of your business expressed both visually and verbally.

Your social media strategy is your compass; it aligns your content with your brand identity. It creates uniformity in your brand’s visuals and voice across various social media platforms—a critical aspect of maintaining professionalism online. Visual and verbal consistency does more than just look good; it builds trust with your audience, embedding your brand in your followers’ minds and fostering their loyalty. And in business, trust and loyalty are priceless.

The importance of a robust social media strategy cannot be overstated for those looking to optimize their digital marketing efforts. An effective strategy does more than streamline the content creation process; it leverages the power of consistency to create visuals and written content that your audience genuinely has fun interacting with. Ever been to someone’s Instagram feed and instantly get the warm fuzzies? For me, @floracreative_co is the definition of Instagram bliss.

3. Rapidly Streamline Your Content Planning

Every minute counts when you’re running a business, or else you’d never come up for air. The more minutes you save, the more time you have to do what you really really want to do in life. With a strategic social media plan, you help to eliminate the stress of last-minute content creation, as it clearly outlines what, when, and where you should publish your work ahead of time. This streamlined approach to content planning saves you valuable time that you can invest in, well, whatever you want. If you want to start using a simple and reliable system to streamline your content creation process, check out our customizable ClickUp template that helps you bring content from a vague idea, to a published post.

4. Strategic Posting for Optimal Reach

Understanding your target audience is fundamental to effective digital marketing. A well-structured social media strategy helps you align your content with what your ideal audience cares about. To determine who your ideal audience is, decide who you’d most enjoy doing business with, and share with them in mind. Make it personal: Like you’re talking with a friend that is hanging on your every word! Because why not? Confidence is the key to success, and it’s the key to connection too, a lot of the time. But that’s a whole different conversation.

5. Continuously Adapting to Support Continued Growth

The social media environment is always evolving. Platforms change, user habits shift, and new trends emerge. By regularly reviewing and adjusting your social media strategy, you stay ahead of the curve, seize new opportunities for growth and continuously improve your online presence.

Regular reassessment of your social media strategy is like a routine health check-up for your business. It involves reviewing who’s engaging with your content, when, and how. This can be as simple as checking your account’s built-in analytics once a week to see which posts got the most likes, shares, or comments. Over time, you may begin noticing patterns that suggest what’s working and what isn’t, allowing you to adjust your strategy to better engage your audience. Remember, the goal isn’t for your strategy to be set in stone, but to allow it to adapt over time as you learn about what works best for you and your audience, as you both grow and transform over the course of time.

6. Shining Bright: Harnessing Your Unique Brand Identity

In the digital marketplace, a well-designed social media strategy allows your brand to shine with its own unique light. You don’t have to chase every trend to succeed online, but strategy gives you the chance to experiment with new formats, platforms, or themes that align with your brand’s voice and your audience’s interests. Moreover, a good strategy involves truly listening to your audience—their feedback and engagement provide invaluable insights into what they really receive value from. It’s not about trying to outshine others in your field. Instead, strategy helps you illuminate your unique corner of the digital market, attracting exactly who you most want to work with, and having a blast doing so.

7. Coherence: Telling a Compelling Brand Story with a Strategic Social Media Approach

In a world saturated with all kinds of content, it’s your unique brand story that captivates and retains your audience. But don’t fret—out of 7 billion people in the world, your best friend still chose to love you, because you’re exactly who they want as a friend. The same goes for brands: There’s room for everyone, and who you uniquely are, as you are now, is your greatest asset.

A high-quality social media strategy preserves your brand’s unique story, ensuring that everything you post contributes coherently to the narrative you want to tell. It’s not just about posting; it’s about weaving a storyline that aligns with your business goals, strengthens your online presence, and resonates deeply with your audience. This strategic coherence not only makes your brand memorable, it enriches the bond you share with your followers.

Remember, social media is not just a platform to showcase your products or services; it’s a digital stage to tell your brand story, as well as your personal one. This unified narrative, set into motion by a clear strategy, sets your brand apart and creates lasting, impactful relationships with your audience. The Power of Words in Business

As a business owner, you know that your words matter. They have the power to engage, delight, and ultimately convert casual viewers into loyal clients. But who wields the power of the pen? Enter the professional copywriter, someone who combines the art of storytelling with the science of consumer psychology and SEO copywriting to enchant your audience. Here’s why your business needs the magic touch of a professional copywriter.

Writing and Reading Skills are a Spectrum

I’ve heard before, “I can write well. Why can’t I just handle my own business writing?” This is a common thought. Writing ability exists on a spectrum, and while most people can write well, not everyone can write effectively in a business context. What’s more, a Gallup study from 2020 indicates that 54% of Americans possess reading comprehension below a 6th-grade level. This doesn’t mean your audience can’t comprehend complex ideas, but it does emphasize the need for clear, accessible writing—a skill professional copywriters devote themselves to mastering. To learn more about making your website more accessible to everyone that visits, read our article on the importance of accessible web fonts.

Copywriters and Persuasion: The Art of Gentle Influence

A professional copywriter understands the intricacies of language, style, tone, and grammar, and utilizes this knowledge to craft compelling brand messaging in your unique voice. They’re not just writers—they’re persuaders. Their goal isn’t merely to inform, but to gently influence. They craft words that inspire action, whether it’s subscribing to a newsletter, buying a product, or reaching out for a consultation.

The Value of an Outside Perspective in Business Writing

An outside perspective is invaluable if you’re interested in sharing high-quality writing with your audience. If you’re writing copy all by yourself, you may struggle to see your products or services objectively, or know how to talk about them in a way your ideal client will resonate with. A professional copywriter, however, can distill your brand’s uniqueness into clear, compelling web copy. They can spot your best selling points and highlight them to your audience. Self-editing is challenging and time-consuming. A professional copywriter will streamline your writing process, saving you time and energy for other core business tasks.

SEO: Your Offering to The Algorithm Gods

In today’s digital world, SEO is a vital part of any content strategy. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the technique used to improve your website’s visibility on search engines like Google. A strong SEO strategy helps your website rank higher in search results, increasing its visibility and thereby drawing more traffic. Essentially, it makes it easier for potential customers to find you online. This is why keeping up with changing algorithms and the latest best practices in SEO copywriting is so crucial.

How Copywriters Demystify SEO for Your Business

However, navigating the intricacies of SEO can be daunting. A professional copywriter stays up-to-date with the latest SEO recommendations and knows how to optimize your content for search engines. They strike the delicate balance of strategically incorporating keywords without compromising readability or the essence of your message. This skill ensures that your web copy serves its dual purpose—appealing to both your human audience and the search engine algorithm gods.

Beyond Grammar: The Role of Professionalism in Writing

Professionalism in writing is more than just correct grammar or polished prose. It’s about crafting a message that’s coherent, concise, and specially tailored to your audience. Professionalism requires a consistent, and well-spoken brand voice across all platforms. A professional copywriter embodies this standard, elevating your brand with high-quality copy is really difficult to accomplish by yourself.

The Struggles of Writing for Your Business and How a Copywriter Can Help

At the end of the day, writing about your own work is really hard (don’t ask us how long it took us to write our website copy. We’ll be a little embarrassed to answer. Just know it’s normal when it’s yours). If you’ve been putting off writing content or web copy, you’re not alone. Many business owners just like you are in the same boat. A professional copywriter can alleviate the stress of writer’s block or lack of confidence in your writing. They can dive into your industry, understand your audience, and craft copy that speaks directly to them.

Our Approach: A Highly Personal, Collaborative Process

What sets apart our copywriting and copy editing services is our highly personal approach. We believe that your business’s essence is contained in your words. We take the time to understand who you are, what you offer, and what you care about. Our mission is to translate this understanding into copy that resonates with your audience.

Client Involvement: A Writing Partnership

Hiring a professional copywriter doesn’t mean you’re excluded from the writing process. Quite the contrary! We believe that the best results come from a collaborative approach. Our process is a partnership where your ideas, insights, and even your roughest drafts are the starting point of our work together. As our client, you’re actively involved in shaping the narrative. It’s your expertise, your passion, and your unique understanding of your business that sets the foundation of our copywriting. What we bring is the polish, precision, and the talent for turning a rough stone brimming with potential into a very shiny diamond. The Role and Value of a Professional Copywriter

In conclusion, the role of a professional copywriter in a business extends far beyond just getting information online. They bring objectivity, SEO expertise, professionalism, and a unique perspective to your brand. Whether it’s communicating your brand message on social media, crafting an SEO-optimized blog post, or developing a compelling sales page, a professional copywriter can help you cut through the noise and connect with your audience in a truly meaningful way.

Want a quick look in the mirror? Look at your clients.

As you claim and integrate new levels of reality in your life, clients that are in greater and greater resonance with who you’re becoming will find you.

What are the most amazing things about the newest client you’ve taken on? Their creativity, their excitement about the project, their trust in you?

What are the most challenging things about the client you’ve worked with the longest?

When you began working with them, were you a perfect match for them? Have you outgrown them, or have you grown together?

Whatever you see in your client, look for it in yourself.

Your perspective of them betrays your perspective of yourself.

It shows you what you’ve integrated and accepted into your world, and what you haven’t.

How do you spend your money? How do your clients?

How excited are you to be working together? Is your client responsive and collaborative?

Bonus question: Are you afraid to break up with a client because you’re afraid to lose the income? And is your client proud of the work you do for them?

Beautiful clients are such a gift. Clients you’re proud of, projects you believe in and want to help bring to the world—that’s where I want you.

(The definition of a “great client” is completely personal to you and your preferences, and that’s how it should be.)

When you see what’s mirrored back to you by your clients, are you proud of what you see?

What new levels of reality are you brave enough to claim? Because that’s how you attract clients that are right there with you, doing the work, and deeply thriving.

And let me tell you… They’re a fucking blast to work with.

Great Marketing Doesn’t Convince.

Your ideal clients are already looking for you. They just need to be able to recognize you when they find you. Great marketing shares who you already are, so that you ideal clients know that you’re who they’ve been searching for.

This is the beauty of authentic marketing. When you share the core of who you are and what you offer in your client-facing material, great potential clients can actually see you. Those that need you will be able to recognize you.

When you pretend to be someone you’re not, projecting a good-looking image that you think will be liked, you will inevitably fail to fulfill the expectations of the clients you attract. Do you expect happy results on either side of a collaboration built on a lie?

This includes lowering the cost of your work to convince clients to hire you. When you accept work that isn’t an equal exchange for your time and energy, nobody wins. You either cut corners to make up the difference, or end up giving away much more than you receive. The first situation sets your client up to feel taken advantage of, and the second sets you up the feel the same. Either way, you cannot offer your best work.

Clients that needed convincing need to work with someone else. There is someone else out there that is a better fit to support them. You do everyone a disservice avoiding this reality.

How To Actually Help.

If you’re in a conversation with a potential client and you find yourself trying to persuade them to work with you, STOP! As soon as you recognize it, take a step back, breathe, and get back to center. At the end of the day, it’s your client’s right to determine for themselves if they want to hire you. It’s not your responsibility, nor is it appropriate for you to decide for them.

The reaching you’re doing doesn’t feel good to be on the receiving end of. It reveals your desperation and lack of confidence. It’s manipulation that fulfills your own needs. You think that if you don’t get this client, you won’t be okay. And that’s not true.

The reason I’m sharing this so plainly is because I know that helping others is deeply important to you. You’re a genuinely loving person with skills that you know are supportive to many. You may even be as passionate about accessibility as I am.

I’m here to tell you that if you see yourself in what I’ve shared, you are out of alignment with what caring and supporting actually looks like. This is tricky to identify because lowering your rates or working with clients that aren’t a good fit for you is easily mistaken for kindness or humility.

Here’s The Alternative.

Be honest about who you are and what it costs to live a life in which you offer your best work.

There are a ton of ways to increase accessibility to your work that don’t lead to bad-fit projects and lowballed quotes. Affordable or free teaching in courses, on social media, or in newsletters is highly accessible. If you want a mission field, start there.

The world needs your growth and success. That’s how you can change the world; by directing the capital you earn toward people and causes that matter to you.

When you work with clients that are more than happy to pay top dollar for your work, you’re able to do the same, and you become a model for how business can nourish its contributors and the causes those contributors care about.

Stop hiding, beautiful one! And let go of your shame. Your offering, your pricing, and your vision are wonderful and deserve support. There are tens of thousands of people looking for exactly what you have to share and how you share it. Claim it. Great marketing shares exactly who you are, as you are. Share from that place. Watch how your life transforms.

TL;DR: Accessible fonts support inclusion and site engagement. Use them!

Readability

The fonts used on your site need to be readable for a number of important reasons.

Delicate, curly, and/or teeny tiny words on a website can quickly lose the interest and patience of site visitors.

Paragraph, header, and sub-header fonts should be simple and easy to read. Headings are often large enough to assist readability: Some flourish in your heading font is typically okay and offers an opportunity to creatively express yourself in your website branding.

Before you settle on a font for your website, try the squint test. If you squint, does your site content remain readable?

Accessibility

Website fonts are an accessibility issue. Difficult-to-read fonts are not accessible to individuals with vision impairment or reading disability and therefore violate US ADA laws. Click here to read a great article about general website accessibility from SiteImprove.

Generally, it’s a good idea to prioritize fonts that are commonly used. They are commonly used for a reason!

If you didn’t know the importance of prioritizing accessibility on your site until now, this is the time to do something about it.

Our team provides accessibility evaluations informed by the wisdom and lived experience of disabled people. Reach us using our contact form to book a discovery call.

In summary, practice inclusion. Find fonts that suit the design of your site and make your site content more accessible. Ensure that your website is a place that everyone can access.
